Former Congressman Matt Gaetz shared a series of tweets, expressing his views on a financial dispute involving a charity aligned with Casey DeSantis and the implications of payments made without legislative approval. The tweets also delved into a political dialogue between Gaetz and Ron DeSantis regarding former President Donald Trump's appeal to voters.
On April 14, 2025, Gaetz commented on a legal case where "The Florida AG is making the argument that a $10 million payment an HMO made to the Casey DeSantis-aligned charity to resolve a $67 million dispute with the State was 'their own decision.'" He highlighted the exchange, suggesting that the decision to make such a payment was made independently.
On April 15, 2025, Gaetz followed up by revealing additional insights, noting that "We invited the AG to join us tonight. He did not accept our invitation." Gaetz further disclosed that the payer of the $10 million commented it was done at the State's direction, implying the payment should have gone through the state legislature for approval.
That same day, Gaetz shared a more personal exchange about political strategy, stating "True friends are honest with one another." He mentioned that he had explained to Ron DeSantis why voters might support Trump for another term. However, according to Gaetz, DeSantis disagreed and was upset by the assertion.
Matt Gaetz has served in the U.S. Congress, representing Florida's 1st District since 2017. Before that, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Gaetz, born in Hollywood, Florida, in 1982, currently resides in Niceville. He holds a BS from Florida State University and a JD from the College of William & Mary.
