Employee Spotlight: Charles Pettis

2

City of Fort Walton Beach recently issued the following announcement.

Meet Sergeant Charles Pettis with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department. He began his career as a public servant in FWB as a patrol officer 17 years ago. He was promoted to sergeant in 2018 and currently oversees the Community Policing Unit which includes the Community Redevelopment Agency District, COPS (Community Oriented Police Services) and the department’s new traffic unit. These officers are the most visible of all FWB police officers, working daily with residents and business owners to solve public safety issues and improve public trust. Charles has worn several hats in the department. Most notably, he worked as a K-9 handler (Astro) for nine years. He truly loves his job and the city he serves. He says the department is just the right size – he doesn’t feel like he gets lost in the crowd, and he is appreciative of the advancement opportunities available to all officers.

Charles was born and raised in Fort Walton Beach and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School. He is proud to be a third generation FWB native and fifth generation Northwest Florida native. He was an Eagle Scout and has a passion for aviation. Charles met his wife, Miranda, in 2004 at the Denny’s on Elgin Parkway one morning after work while the two were working as dispatch officers at different agencies. They’ve now been married for 14 years and have a seven-year-old daughter. Getting to know Charles Pettis:
