Employee Spotlight: Tony May

1

City of Fort Walton Beach issued the following announcement on Dec. 25.

Meet Tony May, a licensed water treatment operator for the city’s Public Works & Utility Services Department (official title is Water Treatment Operator C). He joined the city in 2005 and worked his way up through the water and sewer divisions over the years. He is dual qualified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to treat drinking water and wastewater. This job is something we can all be thankful for. The work never rests, requiring 24/7 monitoring to ensure our drinking water is of the highest quality and that our wastewater is treated properly to prevent environmental harm. Tony and his team oversee nine freshwater wells and treat every drop of drinking water for our consumption. He also maintains and regularly inspects each well and backflow prevention valve throughout the city.

Tony appreciates his job, his coworkers, and the city. He speaks very highly of the citizens of FWB recognizing that because of the diligence of our water consumers, the city now pumps approximately 2.3 million gallons of water per day, down from 5 million gallons per day 20 years ago. This conservation practice greatly increases our drinking water sustainability.

Tony is originally from LaGrange, Ga. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant after a 26-year career that included many combat missions as an aerial gunner. He has three children and six grandchildren. Tony lives in the Florosa area and spends much of his free time with his grandkids. Getting to know Tony May:
