CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH: Employee Spotlight: Jason Morrison

Awards

City of Fort Walton Beach issued the following announcement.

Meet Jason Morrison, one of only two equipment mechanics in the City’s Fleet Division under the Public Works & Utilities Department operating out of the new Field Office Complex on Hollywood Boulevard. Jason is directly responsible for the ongoing maintenance and mechanical repairs of more than 130 gas vehicles in the City. He also handles system installations and enhancements to all police vehicles. He began his career with the City almost four years ago doing small engine repair and, after shadowing other mechanics, made his way to the equipment mechanic position.

Jason has a background in IT/computer repair, but has always had passion for working with his hands. He has worked on vehicles all his life and “took apart everything as a kid!” It seems like his job fits him perfectly. His favorite part of his job is working with police systems. He says, “a whole lot goes into making these cars perform for our officers, and I enjoy the challenge.” He also loves to “pull a car apart and create an undercover police vehicle.” Jason understands the importance of his role because his work touches every department and is vital to every major function of the City.

Jason was born in Homestead, Fla., and moved to Fort Walton Beach when he was four where he has lived ever since. He is a proud single father of a nine-year-old boy and twin six-year-old girls! He says being a single parent has its challenges, constantly keeping him on the move and being “both mommy and daddy all the time,” yet he is all smiles when he talks about his kids. Getting to know Jason:

  • If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be? Elon Musk
  • Something about yourself that would surprise others. “I love to cook. Especially, with my kids.”
