Okaloosa County School District recently issued the following announcement.
In December of 2020, the Okaloosa County School District was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). This grant provides
funding for more than 10,000 math and science students across the district. The project aims to ENGAGE: Leading Students to Build A Healthy Body and Mind to prepare students
for future educational dreams and aspirations, combining STEM education with a healthy body and mind focus.
On March 10th and 11th, Okaloosa County School District hosted the 2022 DoDEA Southeast Regional Grantee Meeting at the Doolittle Institute in Niceville. Thirty professionals
from six states representing ten school districts and five public and private agencies gathered to share the mission of improving military-connected students’ educational outcomes.
The attendees discussed ways to make the most of their grant dollars and impact their students on a broader spectrum while focusing on cyber education and technology
integration.
“This grant has been beneficial not only to our military students but to all the students in our district. It is an honor to host this event. It is in good hands with Tami Ellis, Stephanie
Thetford, and Amy Pearson,” said Superintendent Chambers as he welcomed the attendees Thursday morning. Tami Ellis explained an interesting paradox- “we are all competing
for the same funding. Still, we put that aside for the sake of learning and growing. The brain energy was evident by all the rich conversations and questions. As a regional team, we
come together to learn and improve on ways to be good stewards of resources to support our teachers and students.”
