3

City of Milton recently issued the following announcement.

On multiple occasions over the past few months, it has been brought to our attention that various parties have utilized the City of Milton’s official City Seal in various documents, video’s, flyers, social media posts, etc.  Unlawful use of the seal implies the City’s endorsement of the information or activity advertised or incorrectly attributes the information as a product of the City of Milton.

Florida Statute 165.043 provides that use of the City’s Seal without the express approval of the City is a second-degree misdemeanor.

§165.043 Official County or municipal seal.—The governing body of a county or municipality may, by ordinance, designate an official county or municipal seal. The manufacture, use, display, or other employment of any facsimile or reproduction of the county or municipal seal, except by county or municipal officials or employees in the performance of their official duties, without the express approval of the governing body is a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

Any party wishing to utilize the name and/or City Seal may make a request directly to the City Council via the City Manager’s Office.  Any future use of the City Seal without prior approval may result in a criminal complaint.
