CITY OF MILTON: Hurricane Sally Debris Collection Update

Update

City of Milton issued the following announcement.

On October 12, 2020, the first pass through the entire City to collect Hurricane Sally vegetative debris was completed.  BKW, Inc., the City’s contractor, collected 10,967 cubic yards of vegetative debris Citywide.

Commencing on October 20, the second pass for vegetative debris commenced.  BKW has collected 11,462 of vegetative debris in total.  The second pass for vegetative debris in Ward 1 is 80% complete.  Ward 4 is 99% complete.  Wards 2 & 3 are underway.  The second pass is 45% complete.

In order to ensure collection, all debris was to be placed on the Right-Of-Way for collection no later than October 19.  Any remaining vegetative debris in Wards 1 & 4 will be collected under the regular City Sanitation rules for yard waste and must conform to those guidelines.

The first pass for building debris has seen 579 cubic yards collected to date.  Any storm damaged building materials, white goods, etc. should be placed on the Right-Of-Way for collection.  The debris placed curbside must have suffered damage from the storm.  Hazardous or household waste is not allowed.  The City cannot collect as hurricane debris, items that were clearly not damaged by the storm.  If, in the judgement of the hauler, the debris is not storm related, it may be skipped and ultimately the responsibility of the property owner.  Please ensure that debris is not covering any stormwater drain or inlet.  This could intensify area flooding in the event of a storm.

For more information, please contact the City at 850-983-5400.
