The halls are decked, the cookies are baked and the Crestview History Museum is ready to welcome visitors to “Christmas at the Bush House” with a plethora of free activities for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10.

From Christmas craftsmen to family photos ‘round the fireside to how to use natural local greenery in your decorations, there are activities for all. The museum’s Second Saturday openings are a regular monthly event, with activities and special displays planned for each month.

The November opening featured Master Gardener Marge Stewart from the UF/IFAS County Extension and marked the debut of the Crestview Living History Corps, which, while in historic uniforms, presented equipment and weapons from World ar II and the Vietnam War.

The December event showcases the historic Bush House’s Christmas finery — the result of more than two days of decorating by six volunteers — and multiple holiday themed activities to delight the whole family:

• Children’s Christmas cookie decorating by Crestview chef and caterer Mary Richard (while supplies last);

• Christmas crafts, artists and food trucks organized by Sarah Hawkins, Crestview Artists’ Collective;

• “Holiday Plants & Caring for Your Live Christmas Tree” 11 a.m. presentation by Ms. Stewart;

• Family Photos by the Fireside by Shot in Focus Portrait Studio, sponsored by Dino Sinopoli, Coldwell Banker Realty;

• “Christmas 1944: the Battle of the Bulge” history and displays by members of the Crestview Living History Corps;

• Plus other surprises and guests.

The events are free and are held inside and outside of the Crestview History Museum in the historic Bush House, 198 S. Wilson St., in downtown Crestview, a program of the Crestview Historic Preservation Board and the City of Crestview Cultural Services Division.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ample parking is available. Mobility impaired visitors may park in designated spots and use the access ramp at the south rear entrance.
