Tomorrow, U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz from Florida's 1st District plans to introduce the "National Motor Voter Clarification Act" in response to a lawsuit filed by the Biden-Harris Department of Justice against Virginia. The DOJ sued Virginia for its policy of removing illegal aliens from voter rolls, which has resulted in over 6,300 noncitizens being removed between January 2022 and July 2024.

The lawsuit challenges Virginia's practice of updating its voter list daily to remove noncitizens, arguing that canceling voter registrations within 90 days of an election is not allowed. This is despite a state law permitting such removals. Gaetz's proposed legislation aims to amend Title 52 of the United States Code to explicitly allow states to remove voters who are ineligible due to their citizenship status within this timeframe.

Congressman Gaetz stated, “Last week, the Biden-Harris DOJ turned its fire on Governor Youngkin of Virginia, suing to stop him from removing illegal aliens from the Virginia voter rolls." He added his support for Governor Youngkin's actions by saying that removing non-Americans from voter rolls is "common sense and constitutional."

Gaetz emphasized that his bill seeks to protect governors' ability to manage their voter rolls without interference from federal authorities. He criticized the DOJ's focus on ensuring turnout among those who cannot legally vote.
