Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) has written a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to declare a National Day of Remembrance for the terrorist attack on Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola in 2019. The attack, carried out by a Saudi military exchange student, resulted in the deaths of three U.S. Navy sailors and numerous injuries.

In his letter, Congressman Gaetz emphasizes the need for a National Day of Remembrance to honor the victims and their families. He requests that flags be flown at half-staff nationwide on December 6th, the anniversary of the attack, as a sign of respect and remembrance.

"The terrorist attack on NAS Pensacola was a tragic event that deeply affected our community and the entire military community," Congressman Gaetz stated. "It is important that we remember and honor the lives lost and show support to the survivors and their families."

The letter also references a previous request made in May 2022, where Congressman Gaetz and Representative Neal Dunn called for the lowering of flags at federal buildings to half-staff. This renewed request reinforces the congressman's commitment to ensuring the victims of the attack are properly remembered.

Congressman Gaetz's letter to President Biden can be read in full on his official website. Additionally, local news outlet WEAR Pensacola has provided exclusive coverage of the letter.

As the anniversary of the attack approaches, Congressman Gaetz hopes that President Biden will seriously consider his request for a National Day of Remembrance. This gesture would not only honor the fallen sailors but also demonstrate the nation's unwavering support for those affected by acts of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Congressman Gaetz concludes his letter by expressing gratitude for President Biden's consideration and states that he eagerly awaits a response.

The congressman's efforts to remember the victims and honor their sacrifice are commendable. It is crucial that we never forget the impact of such acts of terrorism and stand united in support of those affected.
