Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) announced the introduction of the "Security Clearance Revolving Door Act of 2023." The proposed legislation aims to address the widespread abuse of national security clearances and prevent individuals from publicly disclosing their clearance status. If passed, the act would classify the act of publicly disclosing a national security clearance as a federal misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000 per offense.
In a press release, Congressman Gaetz highlighted the need for this legislation, stating, "The American people know that the Deep State primarily exists because of the widespread abuse of national security clearances by people who were trusted to act in the interests of our country. The national security state has been weaponized against Americans to control and influence their political beliefs, especially if they align with President Donald Trump."
The congressman also pointed out that 51 former intelligence officers were involved in a plan with the Obama administration to suppress information that revealed corruption involving Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and their foreign business partners in Ukraine and China. These intelligence officers allegedly utilized their national security clearances to lend credibility to their false claims in an attempt to influence the 2020 presidential election.
Regarding the proposed Security Clearance Revolving Door Act, Congressman Gaetz emphasized the importance of preventing such abuses from happening again. He said, "In order to ensure that this never happens again, we must pass the Security Clearance Revolving Door Act."
