Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants of the 2023 Fast Lane Track Meet held Monday, March 27, at Etheredge Stadium. More than 100 runners in elementary school grades 3 through 5 competed in 50-yard, 100-yard, 200-yard, and 440-yard timed races. The track meet is an annual event organized by the City of Fort Walton Beach Recreation Department.

“We’ve been doing the meet for more than 25 years,” said Fort Walton Beach Acting Recreation Director Tiffiny Corcoran.

As the runners lined up for a pre-meet parade, it was clear that Kenwood Elementary School carried the day with the number of students participating. But many other local elementary schools were also well represented, including Edwins, Elliott Point, Mary Esther, Shalimar, Longwood, Eglin, and Plew.

Family cheered from the stands as their young athletes ran their events under cloudy gray skies that threatened, but never delivered, rain.

“I think it went great,” said Corcoran. “The weather held out for us, and we had a really good turnout of kids from a lot of different schools; we even had some home-school kids.”
