The University of West Florida has appointed CAPT Christopher Martin, USN (Ret) as assistant vice president of facilities management for the University, effective Feb. 9, 2023.

“Chris’ many years of experience in operational and personnel management while serving in the Navy made him an easy choice for this position,” said Betsy Bowers, vice president for the Division of Finance and Administration.“ His leadership and knowledge will be indispensable as the University implements its new campus master plan and enhances infrastructure.”

In this role, Martin will oversee all aspects of the University’s facilities and grounds operations including building construction and maintenance, utility services; energy and environmental sustainability; and management of the department’s staff. He will also maintain, develop and implement the 2022-2032 Campus Master Plan including short and long-term planned capital improvement projects.

“I am extremely excited to join UWF and lead the Facilities Management Department,” Martin said.  “During the very thorough interview process, I was impressed by the staff and their extensive work experience. It was evident they are all very dedicated to their jobs and to the betterment of this beautiful and expansive campus.”

Martin has more than 30 years of operational and personnel leadership experience. He served as commanding officer at NAS Pensacola from 2016 to 2019 and was responsible for managing a yearly operating budget of more than $45 million and supervising over 1,400 personnel in 17 departments including fire & emergency services, public works, environmental safety, housing and recreation.

Martin earned a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs and Strategic Planning from Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and a Bachelor of Science in Professional Flight and Aviation Management from Auburn University.
