More than 2,000 graduates to celebrate summer commencement

More than 2,000 students are expected to graduate from the University of Florida this summer during the course of three commencement ceremonies held in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center August 5-6.

The first ceremony, celebrating 350 doctoral graduates, will be held Friday, August 5 at 2 p.m.

Bachelor’s, master’s and specialist’s degree graduates for the College of the Arts; College of Design, Construction and Planning; College of Health and Human Performance; Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering; College of Medicine; College of Nursing; College of Pharmacy; College of Public Health and Health Professions; College of Veterinary Medicine and Warrington College of Business will begin their ceremony at 7 p.m. on August 5.

The bachelor’s, master’s and specialist’s degrees commencement ceremony for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and College of Journalism and Communications will be held Saturday, August 6 at 10 a.m.

This summer’s graduates hail from six continents, representing 72 countries and 47 states.

The faculty speaker at all three ceremonies is Adegbola Adesogan, professor of ruminant nutrition and the director of the Food Systems Institute and the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Katherine Ewel, professor emeritus of wetland ecology and management, will be receiving the Stephen C. O’Connell Distinguished Service Award, which is awarded to an alumna or alumnus of the University of Florida who has highly distinguished him/herself through exceptional public service to the state of Florida or the nation at large.
