Africa native prepped at Lake Forest Academy in Chicago last season
UWF men's basketball head coach Jeff Burkhamer continues to add top-level talent for the upcoming season. On Friday he announced that Sano Rutatika has signed to play for the Argonauts beginning this fall.
Rutatika is a native of Kigali, Rwanda in central Africa and starred at Lake Forest Academy in Chicago a year ago.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound athletic forward scored 12.4 points per game while shooting more than 50 percent from the floor. He added 6.8 rebounds per contest and was a 39 percent shooter from 3-point range for the Caxys.
"Sano is an athletic forward that is very skilled and has great size and speed who will be expected to contribute as a freshman," Burkhamer said. "He has been taught well at both Lake Forest and at the NBA Academy in Africa. He can score inside and outside, and rebound and block shots. He should be one of the best freshmen in the Gulf South Conference."
Rutatika participated in the NBA Academy Africa program in Senegal and played for the Africa & Middle East team in the inaugural Jr. NBA Global Championship in 2018.
The true freshman is expected to major in business or sport management at UWF.
