The Okaloosa County School Board approved the following new administrators at the May 23, 2022, School Board Meeting: Joe Jannazo named Principal of Ruckel Middle School, Ernest “Joey” Chancellor named Principal of Longwood Elementary School, Rosia Cahn named Assistant Principal of Bruner Middle School, and Susan Geering named Assistant Principal of Antioch Elementary School.
Joe Jannazo is a proud product of the Okaloosa County school system as a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School. Following high school, he earned his degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Political Science from Florida State University. In 2009, after working in the private sector, Jannazo entered the field of education as a teacher at Pryor Middle School where he continued his professional growth earning his teaching credentials as well as his Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida. He continued his path in education as the Assistant Principal at his alma mater, Choctawhatchee High School, while earning his Principalship Certification before having the distinct honor of serving as the Principal at Destin Elementary School for the past four years. Jannazo currently serves on the Board of Directors as the Northwest Region Director for the Florida Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals.
Jannazo has been married to Jenna, a Hospice Nurse in Okaloosa County, for 10 years. They have three children, Braden a freshman at Fort Walton Beach High School, Kate a 5th grader at Destin Middle School, and Scarlett, an upcoming Kindergartener at Destin Elementary.
Joe would like to thank the Destin Family for four amazing years and wishes them continued success in the future. He feels honored for the opportunity to serve in the Niceville Community as the Principal at Ruckel Middle School and looks forward to continuing the legacy of excellence by building lasting relationships with the students, staff, and community.
Joey Chancellor is an educator with 30 years of experience. He began his career as an educational assistant in Milwaukee Public Schools, finished his teaching degree and became an Elementary and then Middle School teacher in Appleton, Wisconsin, and later an Associate Principal in both Green Bay and New London, Wisconsin.
Chancellor moved to Okaloosa with his wife, Catherine, and jumped back into a fourth-grade classroom. He then took a job as our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Behavior Interventionist and most recently as an Assistant Principal at Meigs Middle School.
He is the proud father of three children. Shalesa, who lives in Texas, Adara, who currently works at Meigs Middle School as a Title I paraprofessional, and a son, Carston, who is currently studying abroad in France and will be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison next year.
Chancellor is excited to continue his journey in education and hopes to always have the best interest of students, staff, and community in mind when making important educational decisions. He believes connecting with students is the best way to help young people grow into positive citizens within our community.
ROSIA CAHN NAMED ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF BRUNER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Rosia Cahn accepted her first teaching position in Okaloosa County in 1995 after receiving her Elementary Education degree from the University of West Florida. Over the years, she taught various grade levels at several school districts around the world.
In 2018, Cahn earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida. She has been a school administrator since 2019 and is looking forward to becoming Assistant Principal at Bruner Middle to serve, to lead, and to inspire the staff, students, and parents toward greatness. She will embrace the Bruner family and will serve with her whole heart. She loves making a positive difference in the lives of our future leaders.
SUSAN GEERING NAMED ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF ANTIOCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Susan Geering is a proud product of the Okaloosa County School District, having attended Baker School and graduating from Crestview High School. She went on to graduate from the University of West Florida with her undergraduate degree in teaching Special Education, grades K-12.
She obtained her first teaching position as a Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) teacher at Antioch Elementary. During her thirteen years teaching at Antioch, she also served in many teacher-leadership roles and District committees and in 2016 was honored to be selected by her peers as Antioch’s Teacher of the Year.
Geering earned her Educational Leadership master’s degree from the University of West Florida. She has served as an Assistant Principal at Bluewater Elementary and Shoal River Middle School and was named Okaloosa’s first Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year in 2021.
Geering’s daughters, Paige, Colleen, and Riley are all students in Okaloosa County schools, and her husband, Chet, is a teacher at Fort Walton Beach High School. She comes from a family of educators as her parents, Chuck and Ann Sprague, and grandparents all served the school system in various capacities. She is thankful for the unending support that she is provided by her friends and family that encourage her to pursue her goals.
Susan is so excited and appreciative to have the opportunity to serve the students, faculty and staff, and families at Antioch Elementary School with positivity, enthusiasm, and gratitude. She looks forward to many new opportunities to grow as a leader and to make an immense and meaningful impact on the Aviator family.
