County of Santa Rosa recently issued the following announcement.
In addition to Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) Operation Furever Freedom, SRCAS is starting the Hometown Heroes Adoption Program beginning April 18 to provide first responders with up to two pets, all fees waived. Firefighters, police, EMS and 911 dispatchers will be required to show an identification card when adopting.
"This is a win-win program for our animal shelter," said Dora Thomason, shelter supervisor. "Operation Furever Freedom has been a huge success with providing our military families the option to adopt an animal at no cost so we want to extend this program to our local first responders, our hometown heroes."
Operation Furever Freedom, which began in April 2019, is a program designed to provide veterans, active-duty military, reservists and National Guardsmen with up to two pets, all fees waived. An active ID or DD 214 card must be provided.
