Child Abuse Awareness Month

1

Okaloosa County School District recently issued the following announcement.

National Child Abuse Awareness Month is observed during the month of April to recognize the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Okaloosa County School District visited the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center this morning to offer our support to Sheriff Eric Aden as he read and affirmed a proclamation to continue the fight against and eradicate child abuse.

Superintendent Chambers stressed the importance of this initiative as he holds student safety and wellbeing above everything else in the school district. “As educators, we must do everything we can to help our students grow up in a safe, nurturing environment in our schools.”

In 2020, 3.9 million reports were made to child protective services. Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community. Our children are our most valuable resource, and the best defense is prevention.

Thank you to the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center, Sheriff Aden and his Deputies at the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, and our community for advocating for our children.
