6

Okaloosa County School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 1.

The Okaloosa County School District's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee is calling for entries for the 2022 Oratorical and Poster Contest. Hosted by the Sigma Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, this event will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM virtually via Zoom. This year's theme is “STAND ACT UNITE”.

The deadline for applications is Friday, December 10, 2021.

The contests are open to Okaloosa County students in the following categories:

  • Elementary Grades K-3
  • Elementary Grades 4-5
  • Middle School Grades 6-8
  • High School Grades 9-12
Each year the contest highlights Okaloosa County’s talented students, while providing the students the opportunity to express themselves and present their ideas of freedom, peace, equality, and justice just as Dr. King did through the spoken word. The committee encourages all students in Okaloosa County to participate regardless of race, gender, or religious affiliation.

Each school may submit only three (3) participants for the Oratorical Contest and only five (5) for the Poster contest. The student application form is attached. Individual schools will hold preliminary contests in order to determine the top applicants from each category.

If you would like to participate, please contact your school for more information!
