University of West Florida issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
The Argonauts are 3-0 at home this season
The UWF women's basketball team picked up a strong non-conference victory on Saturday, defeating Columbus State 63-59 at the UWF Field House.
UWF (6-1) ran its win streak to six games and improved to 21-6 in regular-season non-conference home games under Stephanie Lawrence Yelton.
Jaclyn Jarnot and Zoe Piller continued their strong play, combining for 39 points on 14-of-21 shooting and 31 rebounds. Both plays had double-doubles as well – Jarnot with game highs of 24 and 16, and Piller with 15 and 15 on 7-of-11 shooting.
UWF led 39-30 at the half due in large part to runs of 9-0 and 7-0 in each of the opening two quarters. The Argos stretched the lead to 53-37 late in the third before the Lady Cougars started to chip away at the lead.
CSU opened the fourth on a 9-0 run to get within 54-51 before consecutive buckets from Jarnot pushed the UWF lead back to seven. The Lady Cougars made a 2-point game at 61-59 on a 3-pointer by Amber Abusbeih with one minute left.
CSU was not in the bonus leaving UWF time to kill as the Lady Cougars fouled on multiple in-bounds situations. Jarnot made two free throws with nine seconds left to clinch the win.
CSU (5-3) shot just 34 percent and dropped its third-straight contest. Abusbeih led the team in scoring with 17 points thanks to 5-of-9 from outside. She made five of their eight long-range jumpers.
During the win streak, UWF has allowed just 53.6 points per game.
UWF finished the week with three wins and will be off until returning to Gulf South Conference play next weekend with a Saturday/Monday road trip to Lee and Shorter. Saturday's game at No. 16 Lee (8-1) will tip-off at 2 p.m. Eastern Time in Cleveland, Tennessee.
