University of West Florida issued the following announcement on Nov. 23.
The 2021 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Men's Soccer All-South Region Teams were announced Tuesday, November 23. The teams were voted on by the region's sports information directors.
Since being named 2021 GSC Tournament Champions, West Florida led the region with three first team selections on the D2CCA Men's Soccer All-South Region Team and one second team selection.
Forwards Kainan Dos Santos, Keegan Ancelin, and midfielder Ed Chappe were named to the First Team All-South Region Team. Defender Elijah Howe was named to the Second Team All-South Region Team.
Earlier this season, Dos Santos, Ancelin, and Chappe were recognized on the GSC All-Conference team.
Elijah Howe has been a key asset to the Argo backline by helping keep opponents out of the net. The Australian native helped West Florida post five shutouts this year. The Argos had an impressive season with a record of 12-3-4 and winning their first GSC title since 2013.
Jacksonville native Ancelin earned GSC Freshman of the Year. Dos Santos and Chappe earned GSC All-Tournament after both players had a fantastic performance to help the Argos win the GSC title. Chappe was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player in the GSC Tournament. England native Chappe kicked a free kick that went into the top right corner of the net to tie the game for the GSC title. Dos Santos would later have the assist to Bernardo Torres to give the Argos the lead in the championship game. The Argos would win the GSC title 2-1 against the Lee Flames.
All four of these athletes have been a key part to the Argo's success this year.
