6

University of Florida issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.

Prevesk joins the Gators after batting .457/.524/.638 with three home runs and 23 stolen bases across his final-two seasons at Apopka High School.

Florida's 2021 Meet the Gators series picks back up this week with freshman outfielder Matt Prevesk, who hails from Apopka, Fla. In his debut season in orange and blue, Prevesk will rep No. 43 for Florida.

Recently ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country by Perfect Game, Florida's 2021 incoming class features 16 freshmen and one four-year college transfer. Individually, Prevesk was tabbed as the No. 296 recruit in the nation while ranking as the No. 42 player and No. 8 outfielder in Florida.

Prevesk quickly found his groove in a Gators uniform this fall, as he reached base in all three of his plate appearances during Florida's Oct. 23 doubleheader against Georgia Southern. The freshman outfielder finished 2-for-2 with one double, one run scored and the eventual game-winning RBI in game two while being one of five Gators to notch multiple hits on the day.

At Apopka High School, Prevesk starred as a four-year letterwinner under head coach Mike McDaniel. His prep career was highlighted by a trio of all-city, all-section and all-conference accolades in addition to holding status as a two-time all-state and all-area honoree.

Across his junior and senior seasons, Prevesk batted a combined .457/.524/.638 with three home runs, two triples, six doubles, 37 runs, 24 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Defensively, Prevesk made just three errors across four seasons at Apopka and totaled four outfield assists.

Also an accomplished student, Prevesk graduated from Apopka with a 4.0 GPA.

As the son of Christine and Ronald Prevesk, Matt has one younger sister, Katie, and one older brother, Stephen. Playing collegiate athletics runs in the Prevesk family, as his mother was a four-year letterwinner in track & field at Kent State. Prevesk intends to major in sport management at the University of Florida.
