7

University of West Florida Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

Tyler Fezzey named Offensive Player of the Week and Ashton Marshall named Defensive Player of the Week

For the seventh consecutive week to begin the season, the University of West Florida Volleyball team has had players earn weekly conference awards the Gulf South Conference announced on Tuesday.

Having Tyler Fezzey earn Offensive Player of the Week and Ashton Marshall Defensive Player of the Week, the No. 10 ranked Argonauts have now had the Offensive Player of the Week within the GSC in every single week this season.

Fezzey, who earned this same recognition two weeks prior, is coming off one of her best weeks of play this season leading the team in many categories.

Picking up 41 kills in just ten sets played on the week, Fezzey lead the team in kills per set with a 4.10 average and paced the Argonauts in points as well finishing with 43 over the three matches. With this great week of play adding to her already impressive season total, Fezzey now ranks within the top ten of the conference in kills per set, points per set, and hitting percentage.

Marshall, who is also earning her second weekly award, helped West Florida this past week shut down some of the top offenses in all of the conference to keep the Argonauts unbeaten in conference play.

The senior libero led all players this past week with 51 digs over the ten sets played to average 5.10 digs per set over the three matches. This strong effort helped the Argos limit opponents this past week to just a .049 hitting percentage and helped raise Marshall's dig per set total to 4.12 on the season.

Fezzey, Marshall, and the rest of the West Florida team will be back in action this weekend when they head down to Winter Haven, Florida to participate in the annual GSC/SSC Regional Crossover. Here they will face Florida Southern, Lynn, and No. 17 Nova Southeastern in the span of two days.
