Argos Outlast Chargers to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

West Florida rallies back from an eight point deficit in set one in route to victory

In one of the most exciting matches so far this season, the University of West Florida Volleyball team once again came out victorious taking down conference opponent Alabama Huntsville in a four set thriller.

Now 18-1 on the season including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play, the No. 15 ranked Argonauts battled back from an early deficit to pick up a statement road victory over the Chargers.

After fighting back from an eight point deficit earlier in the set, the Argonauts fought off three set point chances from Alabama Huntsville to turn the tides of the match in set one. After dropping a close set in set two, West Florida kicked it into gear in sets three and four en route to their 3-1 match victory.

Offensively on the night, the Argonauts spread the ball out very efficiently to every position on the court finishing the match with four players who had double-digit kills and six players with five or more kills.

Veresia Yon brought the firepower once again tonight leading the team with 15 kills in the four sets played. In addition to her offensive efforts, Yon also tied for the lead in blocks finishing with four to bring her point total to 19.5 in the match.

Outside hitter Kierra Potts had one of her best matches this season tonight finishing with a double-double on 11 kills and 11 digs.

Taylor Vaneekeren showed her versatility once again against the Chargers coming up in big moments all night long for the Argonauts. In addition to her 42 assists, Vaneekeren also tied for the team lead in blocks with four and added on five kills to her total as well.

As a team, West Florida put up 62 kills on a .351 hitting percentage including a .515 hitting percentage in the fourth set. After allowing 15 kills in each of the first two sets, the Argonauts defense buckled down in sets three and four to secure the sets and the match.

Next up for West Florida is a trip to Montevallo on Saturday as they try to extend their 13 match win streak. First serve is set for 2 pm from Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama.
