University of West Florida Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 14.
Each of Zach Fenton's first two races as an Argonaut have been strong showings, and the freshman has been voted the Gulf South Conference Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Week for his effort at the UNA Invitational last weekend.
Fenton led West Florida at the meet and finished fifth overall, with a 24:54.63 in the 8K that was the third-fastest time in
school history.
In his first career race two weeks ago at the Memphis Twilight Classic, Fenton finished first for the Argonauts and 44th overall in a field of more than 200.
This is Fenton's first career weekly award, and the first for a UWF men's cross country freshman since Micah Kemp in 2015.
