Okaloosa County School District recently issued the following announcement.
September is American Founder’s Month and Okaloosa County School District teachers have some great lessons and activities planned for their classes! Students at all levels will learn about Founding Fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton throughout the month.
September 17th is Constitution Day, a day in which the students in Okaloosa County will observe the importance of the Constitution 234 years after the delegates of the Constitutional Convention met for the first time to sign the document. Students will learn about the Constitution and the importance of this document to our nation’s history and the freedoms we appreciate today.
During Celebrate Freedom Week, which is the last full week of classes in September (Sept. 20-24), students will recite the Preamble of the Constitution at the beginning of each day. Teachers will integrate resources from the National Archives and Library of Congress to enhance understanding of the role of the Declaration of Independence on the founding of our nation.
