University of West Florida Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.
For the first time since 2013, both UWF golf programs will open the fall season ranked in the top 25 of their respective Division 2 National Polls.
The last time both the men's and women's teams were in the preseason polls together came prior to the 2013-14 season.
The men's program was voted No. 1 in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll, earning four of the possible 16 first place votes. Last year, UWF advanced to the Medal-Match Play portion of the NCAA Championships for the fifth-consecutive time, extending the nation's longest active streak of reaching the final eight. UWF will begin the 28th season under Hall of Fame head coach Steve Fell in Columbus, Georgia at the Cougar Invitational, Sept. 27-28.
The Argonaut women's squad was tabbed No. 24 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association preseason ranking, marking the first time since 2013 the team appeared in the preseason poll. In 2021, UWF posted the third-best team stroke average in program history at 306.75. Third-year head coach Kristen Dorsey's team will open play at the NCAA Super Region Preview, Sept. 13-14 in Davie, Florida.
