UWF welcomes students back to campus during move-in week, prepares for Argo Arrival

University of West Florida recently issued the following announcement.

The University of West Florida is seeing a back to school rush for on-campus housing accommodations as students return to campus. Students began moving in on campus on Aug. 18. With more than 1,400 housing contracts, UWF opted for move-in day to be spread over three days, to allow for an efficient move-in experience.

Argo Arrival will kick off the new school year, welcoming new and returning students and inviting them to connect with one another. The week-long celebration, which will be held Aug. 20-29, celebrates the start of the year and facilitates a smooth transition into college life. This year’s Argo Arrival events include New Student Convocation, Club U-Dub, Beach Bash, Movie Night and an Argopalooza Involvement Fair.

“The energy is different and exciting this year,” said Dr. Ben Stubbs, director of student engagement. “I think students have been waiting for the start of the year and these are events that they are really looking forward to.”

All incoming freshmen will be assigned to an arrival team led by returning UWF students where they can chat with their classmates using the ZeeMee app. Arrival team leaders will arrange meet-ups for each Argo Arrival signature event for any students who want to attend together.

“We know that transitioning to college life can be challenging, especially after this past year, so we’re excited to offer students an arrival team, which we established last year, and was well-received,” Stubbs said. “Engaging with an arrival team is not required, but is a great way for new students to become comfortable with campus life.”

As more students return to campus, UWF will continue working closely with the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, to closely monitor COVID-19. The University’s COVID-19 guidelines and protocols are based on national guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in coordination with the Florida State University System.

The University of West Florida strongly encourages the campus community to wear face coverings indoors and to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Argos are invited to participate in a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on August 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy in Target – University Town Center. The UWF Trolley will provide transportation throughout the day.
