CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH: City of Fort Walton Beach to Open Pickleball Courts

Court

City of Fort Walton Beach issued the following announcement on Feb. 27.

The City of Fort Walton Beach Recreation Department will officially open six new pickleball courts at Jet Drive Park (224 Holmes Blvd. NW) with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 10 a.m. Aging and underutilized tennis courts at the park were recently transformed into pickleball courts thanks to Community Development Block Grant funding of approximately $30,000 approved by the City Council in December 2019. The basketball court at Jet Drive Park also received a facelift.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the March 5 ribbon cutting ceremony. Be sure to bring your pickleball gear!

“Pickleball has become wildly popular in the Fort Walton Beach area over the last few years and the demand for more courts spurred this project. We have been inundated with questions of when the courts will be ready ever since the project was announced,” said Recreation and Cultural Services Director Jeff Peters. “We have some pickleball space at the Rec Center, but it just isn’t enough. These new courts are a great addition to our park system and will be heavily used.”

The Community Development Block Grant is a federal program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community needs with a goal to create transformative impacts on communities and the lives of residents.
