CITY OF DESTIN: The Rise of White Nationalism in 21st Century America

City of Destin issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.

The Friends Guild of the Destin Library presents a guest lecture by former civil rights lawyer, Richard Cohen, on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. This is a free event and no registration is required to attend.

Richard Cohen is a recovering lawyer and the former President of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization dedicated to fighting hate, teaching tolerance, and seeking justice. He has been involved in a wide variety of civil rights litigation, including cases against neo-Nazi organizations for the violence of their members, and has testified many times before Congress about the threat of radical-right terrorism. 

He served as the executive producer for the Center’s documentary films, four of which were garnered Academy Award nominations and two won Oscars. A Virginia native, Richard received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. He currently lives in Pensacola, Florida.
