Former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who represented Florida’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on August 4 and 5, 2025, touching on personal anxieties and current events.
On August 4, Gaetz expressed discomfort with new technology: “Smart toilets terrify me. I’m always in instant apprehension that I’m going to make a catastrophic mistake when I see them.”
The following day, he shared two brief posts. The first simply stated “Sharks! https://t.co/rPyqDm097w” on August 5. Later that same day, he commented on Middle East policy discussions by posting “Meadows cautions against Gaza occupation! https://t.co/exkm3t4HAd”.
Gaetz has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 1st District since replacing Jeff Miller in 2017. Prior to his time in Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Born in Hollywood, Florida in 1982 and currently residing in Niceville, Gaetz holds a BS from Florida State University and a JD from the College of William & Mary.
