Former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who has represented Florida’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently posted a series of tweets discussing international politics and personal freedoms.

On February 6, 2026, Gaetz commented on presidential eligibility in Central America, stating: “.@NayibBukele is legally permitted to run for President of Guatemala while serving as President of El Salvador. Should he?”

The following day, on February 7, 2026, Gaetz published a tweet containing only an emoji and a link: ” https://t.co/1mWmowIwdf”.

Later that same day, he posted about individual rights in the United States: “I think in America I should be allowed to criticize my food if I want.”

Gaetz has been a public figure since replacing Jeff Miller in Congress in 2017. Prior to his tenure in Washington D.C., he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Born in Hollywood, Florida in 1982 and currently residing in Niceville, Gaetz holds degrees from Florida State University and the College of William & Mary.
