Former Congressman Matt Gaetz posted a series of tweets on August 22 and 23, 2025, sharing commentary on democracy, his time in Washington D.C., and soliciting opinions from followers.

On August 22, Gaetz wrote, “You don’t really love democracy unless you’re willing to gerrymander for it, I guess. https://t.co/q5WB4kCywR”. Later that day, he added, “I need to get out of DC https://t.co/Bu9NEpTW6v”. On August 23, he tweeted, “What do you think? https://t.co/J5ZSoRjnU0”.

Matt Gaetz has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 1st District since 2017 after succeeding Jeff Miller. Before his tenure in Congress, Gaetz was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Born in Hollywood, Florida in 1982 and currently residing in Niceville at age 40, Gaetz graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2003 and earned his Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary in 2007.
