Former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who has been a notable figure in U.S. politics since representing Florida’s 1st district starting in 2017, recently shared his perspectives on Middle Eastern geopolitics through a series of tweets. Gaetz’s statements reflect his views on potential international conflicts and their implications.
On June 21, 2025, Gaetz tweeted about the situation in the Middle East, suggesting that a deal should be made as proposed by former President Trump. He expressed concern over potential chaos if action is not taken: “Enough of this. Do what Trump said and make a deal. Or he’s going to let the Israeli’s kill you and throw the Middle East into chaos. I prefer the Middle East without 40 million war refugees on the move…mostly for the ‘less terrorism’ part.”
The following day, June 22, Gaetz posted another tweet regarding tensions involving Iran and U.S. military presence in the region: “My hope now is Iran can lob some ordinance into a vacant patch of sand somewhere around a US base and we can end this. I hope… “ This statement reflects his desire for de-escalation without further conflict.
Later that same day, Gaetz commented on differing motivations behind actions related to Iran’s nuclear program: “I sincerely think it was about the nuclear program for Trump. I think it’s about regime change for Israel.” His remarks suggest different interpretations of geopolitical strategies between former President Trump and Israel.
Gaetz has served in Congress since succeeding Jeff Miller in 2017 after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Born in Hollywood, Florida, he currently resides in Niceville and holds degrees from Florida State University and College of William & Mary.
