U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) joined six other members of the House Freedom Caucus in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken asking for “more transparency from the Biden Administration about U.S. policy in Ukraine.”

“The American people deserve answers after the leaked reports that there are U.S. special forces on the ground in Ukraine,” tweeted U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), one of the signatories of the letter. “Thank you to @RepEliCrane, @RepMattGaetz, @RepScottPerry, @RepLuna, @RepBobGood, and @RepAndyBiggsAZ for joining this effort.”

On April 14, 2023, Fox News reported, “FBI agents arrested Massachusetts Air National Guardsmen Jack Douglas Teixeira at a home in North Dighton, Massachusetts, on Thursday in relation to a trove of classified documents that have been leaked online in recent months.”

The letter signed by Gaetz said the information in those leaked documents “indicate that the United States has special forces personnel based at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.”

“In addition to the information about U.S. special forces, specific data on U.S. and Ukrainian military activities has been released potentially jeopardizing U.S. personnel in the region,” said the letter. “The Department of Defense and Department of State kept Congress in the dark about U.S. special forces being based at the U.S. Embassy. Congress has not authorized U.S. military troops on the ground in Ukraine.”

The letter lists nine questions about U.S. policy in Ukraine for which answers are requested by April 21, 2023.

“The American people deserve more transparency from the Biden Administration about U.S. policy in Ukraine,” said the letter. “We look forward to hearing from you and would be willing to discuss these matters in a classified briefing.”
