Crestview Community Chorus presents patriotic spring concert May 19 and 20

From a stately rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to “God Bless America,” a rousing salute to our United States military awaits audiences at the Crestview Community Chorus’s upcoming May 19 and 20 spring concerts.

During “A Tribute to the Armed Forces,” Warriors Hall will resound with beloved classic and contemporary, well-known and perhaps some lesser-known works that honor our country, our military and our allies.

Under the direction of Cecile Lindegren, the chorus is accompanied by pianist Keitha Bledsoe with some numbers enhanced by instrumentalists from the North Okaloosa Community Band. The Rev. Mark Broadhead provides the narration.

Delight in beautiful arrangements of such Americana and patriotic favorites as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “This Land is Your Land,” and “A Cohan Salute” featuring George M. Cohan favorites “Yankee Doodle Boy” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”

“Danny Boy,” “The Rhythm of Life,” “Song for the Unsung Hero” and “An American Tribute” are among the chorus’s other concert selections. The performances conclude with the moving “We Will Be a Shelter for Each Other in the Storm,” which reminds audiences, “Love can build a house that stands forever, stronger than a wall of steel or stone. We will be a shelter for each other in the storm, and when we come together we’ll be home.”

The 7 p.m. concerts are free, while donations toward purchasing music to build the Community Chorus’s library are welcome. The performances are programs of the Mayor’s Cultural Series.
