Members of the Crestview Area Sister City Program’s student organization, the Sister City Ambassadors, are $1,150 closer toward their planned June 2023 trip to Noirmoutier thanks to the generosity of Atlas Martial Arts.
Plus, a generous parent pitched in an additional $100.
Ten Ambassadors members volunteered to put on the evening of family fun and flying sponge projectiles that was attended by 25 kids of various ages.
“Atlas Martial Arts donated 100% of the proceeds to go towards the Ambassadors’ 2023 Noirmoutier, France trip,” parent Erika Follmar said. “We appreciate their generosity so much.”
The students had also earlier raised almost $100 during a 50/50 drawing held at the Sister City Program’s fall “pique-nique,” for which Anne Whitten won the pot. She then turned around and donated her winnings back to the Ambassadors.
In addition to reuniting with French friends from Crestview’s Sister City whom they hosted in April, the Crestview students are looking forward to plunging into French culture through a two-week homestay on the island of Noirmoutier. They’ll explore the island — first settled by the Romans — and nearby sights, swim in the Atlantic, and give their French language skills a workout.
Plus, they’re planning to take a little American culture to Noirmoutier.
“They’ll be over there for our Independence Day and are discussing throwing an American Fourth of July cookout for their hosts,” Mrs. Follmar said. “I wonder if they can find hotdogs in Noirmoutier?”
