Washington, D.C.— U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz has taken a stance to protect IRS whistleblowers in the lawsuit filed by Robert Hunter Biden against the Internal Revenue Service. In a letter addressed to Speaker Mike Johnson, Gaetz urged for intervention to safeguard the rights of those who exposed Hunter Biden's alleged tax fraud.

Gaetz's letter to Speaker Johnson emphasized the importance of defending the House of Representatives' interests and the legal rights of whistleblowers. He pointed out that the Department of Justice, representing the IRS in the lawsuit, was not adequately protecting the whistleblowers. Gaetz requested the House Office of General Counsel to intervene in the case to ensure the protection of whistleblowers and the rights of Americans to disclose information to Congress.

In the letter, Gaetz stated, "We should be doing everything we can to protect these brave whistleblowers." He highlighted the need to uphold House Rule 8(c) and 2 U.S.C. § 5571 to defend the prerogatives of the House and the rights of individuals to make protected disclosures to Congress.

The Congressman attached relevant documents, including Hunter Biden's complaint and the Department of Justice's partial motion to dismiss, to support his request for intervention. Gaetz underscored the importance of a comprehensive interpretation of whistleblower provisions, emphasizing the House's interest in ensuring the broadest possible disclosure of information to congressional committees.

In closing, Gaetz signed the letter as "Matt Gaetz, Member of Congress," with copies sent to Chairman James Comer of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and Chairman Jim Jordan of the Committee on the Judiciary.
